Ron Hoover



Ron’s life came to an end, while at peace with his loving wife Barbara at his side, on 5 May 2018 at his home in Carlisle Pennsylvania. Ron was 81and was born in Harrisburg, PA. Surviving are his wife Barbara J. Hoover, daughters Leslie Brehmer and Shelly Porvasnik both from Parma, OH; son Ronald E Hoover, Jr from Carlisle; eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren; two sisters, Jacqueline Carr from Carlisle, Evelyn Mummau from Elizabethtown, PA. One sister in law Virginia Davis; several cousins, nieces and nephews.

   A Celebration of Life and Memorial Ceremony was held on 9 June 2018 at The US Army Heritage and Education Center, 950 Soldiers Drive Carlisle, PA 17013. Pastor Wes Smith Officiated. A Memorial Service was held on the grounds at approximately 0930. The Marine Corps League Detachment #524, Carlisle, will provide the Honor Guard Services.  

    Ronald joined the Marine Corps in January 1954. During his tenure he served in numerous billets including infantry, Drill Instructor, and reconnaissance. In 1966 as a staff sergeant he received a Battlefield Commission to 2nd Lieutenant. He served in Vietnam as a platoon leader with 3rd Recon Battalion in 1966-67 and as a Company Commander of India Company 3/26 during 1968-69. As a Mustang Officer he obtained the rank of Captain. His personal citations include the Silver Star, the Bronze Star, and two Purple Hearts.

   After retiring from the Marine Corps in 1974 he continued his public service with the Reno NV Sheriff’s Department and the California Department of Corrections and retired again in 1994.

    Mr. Hoover held Life Memberships with several of the Veterans Service Organizations. He served as Detachment Commander of the Marine Corps League #524, Carlisle, during 2004-2006.
